Meet Our Team

Ted Owens is Producer/ Director/Cinematographer at Syncronos Design. A native of Los Angeles, he attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Ted began his professional career as a designer and director of multi-projector multi-image shows for clients such as Mattel, GTE, Southern California Edison, and Computer Sciences Corporation. During this period he also made a number of industrial and documentary films, and in 1984 he was part of the team that created the first computer-generated IMAX film, The Magic Egg.

Ted was inspired by lifelong interest in environmental issues and the use of solar energy, including  the magic of piloting sailplanes to 10,000 feet without an engine, and sailing boats with just the power of the wind. Syncronos Design was formed in 1988 with the purpose to promote sustainable design and clean energy. Ted designed and built his very energy-efficient home in New Mexico. It has has been the subject of numerous newspaper and magazine articles—both for its ecological aspects and its aesthetics.  Syncronos Design has also designed solar ovens for cooking food—a major problem in many parts of the world due to the lack of fuel wood. For fun, Syncronos Design co-created and developed the video game and app, “The Home Gene-Splicing Kit”, which won the NewMedia Awards best entertainment software of year. It was one of the first software programs that seamlessly combined pictures of people and animals to make humorous gene-spliced mutants.

We promote green technology and we walk the talk. 100% of our electrical power comes from solar panels on our building. This greatly reduces our carbon footprint by using a clean and sustainable energy source. We are also the publisher of the book and DVD video, Building With Awareness: The Construction of a Hybrid Home, which gives step-by-step instruction on building a green, solar powered house.
